Store Types: Shoes & Leather Goods

Kwanpen

Crocodile leather is notoriously hard to work with, but Singapore-based house Kwanpen has turned it into an art form – its craftsmen must undergo a rigorous apprenticeship under an experienced master before they can work with the precious skins. Each bag is made by hand, fitted with gold or palladium-plated hardware and takes around 30 hours to complete.

This skill and care is evident in the finished products, which include timeless bags and briefcases, belts and footwear. The Burlington Arcade boutique is the brand’s only store outside of Asia and offers both men’s and women’s collections.

Crockett & Jones

A 5th generation family-run business, Crockett & Jones has been making shoes and boots for men since 1879. Each pair is made by hand using the finest leathers at its Grade II listed factory in Northampton.

Known for classic styles that stand the test of time, its shoes have graced the feet of Daniel Craig as James Bond, Prince Charles, and countless other stylish men across the globe.

The Burlington Arcade store opened in 1995, and offers the opportunity for each client to have their foot measurements taken by Crockett & Jones’ expert staff before test fitting their chosen shoes. Special orders and repairs are also available.

Manolo Blahnik Women’s

Manolo Blahnik’s name has been synonymous with luxury footwear since it was established in 1970. His longtime fans count tastemakers from Rihanna to Anna Wintour. The brand was even immortalised on screen when Sex and the City’s Carrie Bradshaw was mugged at gunpoint for her heels.

Manolo Blahnik remains a family business today, with the eponymous designer as Creative Director and Chairman and niece Kristina Hulsebus Blahnik as CEO. Manolo still sketches every shoe himself and works with artisans in Italy to bring each collection to fruition. In addition to more than 150 new creations each season are permanent classics including the Hangisi, BB and Chaos styles.

In July 2018 a dedicated men’s store opened alongside the women’s boutique in the Burlington Arcade.

Shoe Shine Service

Appropriately located outside Church’s, shoe shine specialist Romi Topi has been polishing shoes for the good and the great of Mayfair since 2001.

Topi’s process involves first cleaning the leather, then applying a leather dye around the edges of the soles and heels. This is followed by a leather lotion, followed by a polish and final buff. He insists that by taking care of your footwear in this way, they will both look better and last longer.
